Hey, it's me again. Do any of you either live in Kentucky or have a Tennesse Walker? I would really like to get one but there are very few in Alberta. The ones here I have seen are all kind of high strung and flighty. I thought they were quiet and laid back? Anyways, earlier this year I almost had my hubby talked into flying down to Tennesse to go horse hunting!!! Yahoo. There is a website Adam's Horse and Mule that is in Kentucky. He adverstises on Horsetopia and has his own amazing website. The horses are absolutley fabulous looking and they put them through bombproof traing. Some of the video's are hilarious = he rides hanging of the back of the horse butt!!! I would be interested to hear what other have found about the temperments of the TWH or other gaited breeds. and if anyone has ever heard of Eric Adams. Check out his website and see what you think. Hope to hear from you.

I have heard of them. Send me an e-mail with walking horse in the topic. Kathy coleusk@yahoo.com Walkers can run hot or cool depending a lot on the bloodlines. You might want to contact these people. I know the lady who bought the second horse shown is quite happy with him.http://www.willbegaitin.com/sale.htm OK I found some Canadian walker breeders just while looking at a Natural walker site. http://www.walking-horse.com/state/canada.html

I own a Rocky Mountain 3 year old mare and board her at a Walker farm, of course before I got Holly I rode the Walkers. Holly is a young, bombproof mare. She is PERFECT, and my mom, brewbren, owns Curly, another bombproof 3 year old mare. Gaited breeds are so perfect for everything. I started jumping Holly a couple days ago, and she was great!

Hi, Franny. This is brewbren (I didn't realize when I started posting that my daughter was logged in). My understanding of the TWH is that there are a couple of different lines. One of the lines has a reputation for being high strung. Holly, our new mountain horse (see Holly's Hero post above) is 1/2 TWH and one of the most laid back horses I have ever met (although she can really move out when ridden). Although both of our horses are young, they have the most wonderful temperaments. If you are interested at all in the mountain horses, I can refer you to the woman I bought mine from. You can see from my "I love my horse" thread that I am crazy about my horses!

TWH's are like any horse. There are some laid back ones and some that are more flighty. It depends on the individual horse. I have heard good things about the Adams from other boards. Main thing, make sure you ride the horse as well as the owner. Good luck. I love my walker!!

I board my horse at a TWH barn here in Montana. They raise, train and sell some very nice horses, mostly for trail. There are also a few other places that sell TWH's here in Montana. Since you're in Alberta would be closer than going to Tennessee. Let me know if you want information and I can email you the websites. Snickersmom :)

Hi, Thanks for all the information. It's good to hear that others are happy with their TWH's. I have looked at some of the sites in Montana as well, but would love to hear which one's you know of as they may be different. I think it is my national sport to surf for horse sites and check out TWH's and rocky's. LOL Do you know the names of the lines that are known to be high strung? My hubby has a Rocky and it has a bit of TWH in him and he is "crazy". Bill loves him but I think he's wound a bit too tight. --------- Betty aka Franny

Okay, I have to first say that I am no expert on TWHs and that anything I say here is what I read online, and we all know how inaccurate that can be! I have read that the Generator and Pusher lines can be hotter (some say a "bigger motor" not hotter) and that the Ebony's Masterpiece line tends to have a wonderful temperament. The only thing I can confirm is that my new mare is from the Ebony's Masterpiece line on her TWH side and she is a sweetheart. Anyone who actually knows anything about this, please feel free to chime in...

My mare is heavy Ebony Masterpiece and Spirit of Midnight. I frequent a gaited board and lots of members have good horses with the Pusher bloodlines that test the Pusher theory. So imo it is the individual horse more than the bloodlines in TWH's per se. As most have a lot of common ancestary. You need an older, well broke TWH, flat shod pleasure and probably gelding. I have a mare and she is a good girl. But some folks have their theories on mares also. LOL. Buy from a reputable dealer that knows what you are looking for. By all means ride the horse yourself before purchasing. It doesn't hurt to find a seller who will give you a 30 day return policy. If you find any gaited breed that meets your criteria, I would go with that horse rather than breed. But I am older and I love the glide ride.
