I think this can be fun. As an adult what do you do for the horse crazy kid in you that maybe makes your family wonder if you are sane or not? OK here goes mine... Don't laugh... I love to watch Saddle Club every afternoon! I watch every horse movie out there. Repeatedly... family groans when one comes on satellite. Love the catalog Horsefeathers. Get mad that all the cute t-shirts with the cartoon horses are only in kids sizes. Have a collection of beanie baby horses. I have to look at all the Breyer's at Tractor Supply. ANYTHING with a horse on it catches my eye!! I may not buy it, but I do have to check it out. I love all the purple and pink horsey stuff out there now. Eat the horse shaped animal crackers first... uhum have to make a little whinney first. What about you all???? PB

My office has about 20 mule pictures on the walls - it starts some great conversations, although my foo-foo co-workers think I'm nuts. I'd rather clean the barn than the house. still read all the for sale ads - just to see what's out there. suscribe to 3 horse/mule magazines. have every trail book written, I think. still have all my Marguerite Henry and Walter Farley books. when I doodle in a meeting, it's still horses/mules that I draw, without even thinking about it. the first thing I look at when I sit down at the computer is this forum! ---------- Dixie Mom "The art of riding: Keeping a horse between you and the ground!"

Dixiemoms list sound an awful lot like mine:0) I work for myself from home and I used to be very disiplined about the amount of hours I worked - from early morning to bedtime - now I spend AT LEAST an hour or two every day, looking at this forum, and one or two others (this is the best!!), horsemart (just to see whats out there for sale!), Tackshop websites etc etc. Not to mention the amount of time I spend at the yard. All my conversation seems to be horse related, as Flyingmane says, anything else is boring. I think I am back to being as horse mad as I was when I was a child. Bye for now Megan

Thank goodness for this forum. Here we can prattle on about our horses and what stuff we've bought for them and where we went and what he did...... Just as well as sometimes I see my friends' eyes glaze over!!!! ---------- Bitless - not witless!

This is a great thread. - I always have to look inside the trailer that I see driving along the road and I always think - look at those cute horse hineys! -If I am a passenger and we are driving on a stretch of highway I picture what it would be like to just be cantering along on the grass on the side of the highway. - I have to look in any field I pass if I see horses turned out. - I will purposely drive by myself or make my husband take the route that drives by the barn where my horses are ( on the off chance I might get a glimpse of them in turnout) - I go through every horse catalogue page by page. - I check this website everyday , as soon as I sit at the computer. Imagining myself riding alongside the road is something I have done since I am a little girl - try it it's fun!!

Ha, you've all just about hit the nail on the head (all of the above). I have all the RFDTV horse related shows on automatic record. I subscribe to Horse & Rider and Equus and I check this site first thing in the morning when I get to work (no computer at home :( I have bookmarked all kinds of tack supply, clinician sites, and the local horse sale auction which occurs monthly because they have "cool pictures and bios" of all the horses that will be up for sale for that month. LuckilyI work for an animal protection organization so if anyone ever went through my computer they might think it was work related :) It mildly irritating when I'm with my horsey friends and we have one person who isn't (means it wouldn't be polite to just talk "horses" ALL OF THE TIME! At least I don't make my friends "play horses" anymore. When I was a kid I alway wanted to play horses (naturally, I was always the "king of the wild stallions. Snickersmom :)

I do that too, rujettnit - Wherever we drive, I'm looking for possible trails or trying to figure out how to ride from one point to another. And a horse trailer driving by is always a head turner. The other day at a party, a guy was stupidly asking very demeaning questions about why any one would ride a mule. All I could think of (but I kept my mouth shut) was that not all A$$es have 4 legs. :) ----------Dixie Mom "The art of riding: Keeping a horse between you and the ground!"

I love this. OK, here is my list: I used to collect those plastic horses as a kid. This Christmas when I was at my parents' I made a blanket for one of them (he looked cold). I watch Black Beauty a lot. I still have my copy of The Black Stallion from the '70s. In meetings at work I occasionally tap my fingers to sound like a horse galloping (unconsciously). Last weekend at my brother's baby shower, my sister-in-law was blocking the doorway and I unconsciously clucked to get her to move! I crane my neck at any field where there could be horses. I keep every issue of Practical Horseman. My co-worker rides at my barn, and we have "touchbases" every two days so we can spend an hour talking about horses. I watch TV shows to see the riding versus the plot (i.e. The Tudors, old westerns, etc) When a passenger and I see horse trailers, I play a game to check if they are "loaded" by judging how close they sit to the road. Whenever Re blows I make the same noise back at him. I, too, read the saddlery catalogs cover to cover. Oh my. Some of these are for the vault!

Wonderful thread. Here's our's : )Horse trailers going by on the road, I remark on how comfy and spoiled they are and love it! Switch bits and bridles all the time, just to handle the equipment. Have to smell the neck and mane, deep long slow breaths.Brings on a eupphoria that I can't explain. Each horse gets a kiss or 2 on the nose, every day, no exceptions. ( gots to have that velvet nose kissed). Open the can to smell the sweet feed treat. sometimes I eat a little. LOL I really don't mind the smell of horse manure. All conversations are about horses or wind around to them. Anything else simply won't do. IF you don't like horses, I'll talk to someone else. My day always begins and ends here on this forum.

Here's my demented list(before I was a role model): I galloped around the playground pretending I was a Mustang too (haha I forgot about that) In third grade I began drinking lots of coffee because I had been told that coffee would stunt my growth. (I wanted to be a jockey.) I think I was actually told that to explain why only the grown ups got to drink coffee. (See how lying backfires!) I used to watch any show that had horses in it and would pick out which actors are obviously horsepeople in real life. Read the sports pages to follow horse racing. Read the classifieds to see what horses were for sale. Put pillow "saddles" on the Great Dane I had as a kid. Breyers horses and Walter Farley rule! Would get my friends to toss me on the backs of horses out in fields (before I was a role model). Stared out the window and daydreamed that where we were driving, I was riding. Watch PBR (bullriding) so I can learn tips to help stay on a horse that wants to squirrel out from under me. Made my bedroom look like a tackroom so I would feel comfortable enough to fall asleep in bed (sad). Refer to horse related wishbooks as horsey porn.

Poeta's list made me remember another one I _never played with dolls when I was little ( thankfully my best friend was as horsey as I was) we only played with Breyer horses and "stupid" Barbies legs only go front to back so she couldn't even ride so my mom bought me the Lone Ranger and Silver and Tonto and his horse ( the name escapes me) they were awesome ! The horses legs were jointed so you could actually put them in positions and the guys could ride - My friend and I would set up barns and towns for them, Barbie occaisonally got to visit as the bartender or something. I still have the horses and the guys and then thankfully Brenda Breyer came out!!

My very first plastic horse was a bay that came with Chuck Conners, "The Rifle Man," my favorite TV show when I was 4 or 5 years old. I named the horse Skippy, and he came with a saddle and of course, Chuck Conners. The saddle eventually wore out (black plastic) and Chuck jumped overboard sometime along the way, but I still have well worn Skippy, with all 4 legs still intact. Let's see, he's ready for some Senior Feed now, I suppose, at 48 years old! ----------Dixie Mom "The art of riding: Keeping a horse between you and the ground!"

Oh Gosh, the plastic horses, I had 2 palominoes; High Point Fancy and Fancy Capers! LOL (A few years later dad bought me a Palomino POA named Honey.) Before there were dolls made to ride them, I took a "Tammy Doll" with the bendable knees and she rode them. She jumped everything fearlessly! I also lived for my riding lesson every week, and had a stomach ache until it was time to go!!Ahhh,..the excitement of it all. Life was so simple then,..and so much fun!! : )
