What is Applied Posture Riding?
This is a very specific program for horse riders. It is an educational exercise program based on the concept of Pilates. Pilates is core stability. Core stability gives a person deep abdominal strength and therefore better posture control and trunk stability. Horse riders NEED deep abdominal strength for riding. This program explains the process of training core stability. The exercises are individually demonstrated and explained in photos and text. The exercises are directly related to muscle control in the saddle. This program will benefit EVERY horse rider no matter what level you are already at.
What equipment do I need?
You absolutely need the book “Applied Posture Riding”. The exercises are based around the big Physio, gym balls, so a ball is necessary. You will also need some exercise tubing or ribbon. These are all available from me.
Who will benefit from this program?
EVERY person who wants to ride at any level will get a benefit from this program. Pilates is an exercise every person will benefit from. Good core stability doesn’t lead to a better riding ability, directly, either. Riders need to be taught HOW TO apply Pilates in the saddle. This program will do that.
I’m already competing at a top level, what can this offer me?
Top riders typically suffer muscle tightness and joint pain from many hours in the saddle.
This will result in a loss of core stability eventually, and lead to poor performance and pain. This program will teach you HOW TO stretch and ease soreness. It will teach you HOW TO self test your assumed core strength. It will teach you HOW TO apply even better core strength to your already established riding skills.
I’m a nervous rider with poor balance what will this program do for me?
Nervous riders tend to cling onto their horse and bounce around. This creates tension in the horse and then the rider and then the horse and the cycle is set. This program will teach you HOW TO identify specific muscle group needed for riding and HOW TO test their strength and then HOW TO strengthen them. It will teach you HOW TO train these muscles on the physio ball and give you confidence to apply this in the saddle. The lessons in part 2 teach you HOW TO apply this muscle control in the saddle. You will relax and have strength and confidence.
I’m an Instructor what will this program give me?
Many instructors can see the problem riders have but don’t have the Physiotherapy knowledge to help and give advice. This program will give instructors education and knowledge to pass onto their pupils. Instructors should understand the importance of core stability and how they can use it in their lessons. All their pupils will benefit from this.
Both pupil and instructor need this program to achieve the best results.
I suffer back pain will this help me?
Back pain treatment involves Pilate’s programs at all levels. I use it in my Physiotherapy practice for ALL back pain suffers with excellent results. You will learn HOW TO protect your back when riding and HOW TO manage it after riding. Riding is not bad for back pain it is the associated activities with owning a horse that are hard on the back. Lifting, bending, throwing rugs on, cleaning stables etc etc that is the problem. This program will teach you HOW TO mange your pain, both on and off your horse.
I do Western riding will this help me?
If you ride a horse core stability is important. The activities you want your horse to perform may be different but sitting in the saddle and giving aids is exactly the same. All riders need core strength to give independent aids to their horse. Asking for a nice lope at the canter requires the same independent seat and trunk control as asking for a well balance working canter. The rein contact may be different but not much else is. This program will teach you HOW TO achieve the best results.
Jumping is a different position how will this program help jump riders?
Jumping is either a two point or three point position. The stirrups are shorter and the body has a forward position. This requires great upper body and quads strength. This requires extra core stability. Dressage riders absorb the impact of the horses’ ground strike through their seat. Jump riders take this impact through their feet. This requires good trunk stability and balance. This program will teach jump riders how to maintain a strong lower leg position and use their body more efficiently to balance and have a stable base.
I have trouble getting the sit trot will this help me?
The most common problem all riders complain of is the sit trot. It requires precise posture control. The movement of the horses back under your seat require the body to move in micro directions, this require great core stability. Once you learn HOW TO breathe through the trot pace with good core strength you will sit still at the sit rot. This program WILL TEACH YOU core strength. In guarantee it.
Can I learn Pilates from a book?
I see many people with back pain. I see many people who attend Pilate’s classes. I see many people who follow DVDs and gym program. Not one of the people I have seen has got it right. I have given this program to 100s of people and had great testimonials. You can learn this from this book.
Is there a DVD?
No, I feel this program needs to be learnt from reading and understanding. A DVD is following the leader and the result is not a lesson it is a session. This program will teach you new body skills to use in daily living but specifically for your riding. I have a DVD in mind for the future though.
